Aspen Mountain Medical Center Welcomes Tony Swart as Chief Executive Officer

ROCK SPRINGS — Aspen Mountain Medical Center welcomes Tony Swart as its new Chief Executive Officer. An Eastern Oregon native with 19 years of healthcare experience, Swart brings a background in hospital operations, finance, supply chain, healthcare logistics, and service development. He also brings a belief that a hospital’s role reaches well beyond its walls.

“Rural hospitals are more than healthcare facilities; they are anchors for the communities they serve,” said Swart. “Their success requires leaders who understand that access, quality, workforce stability, community trust, and financial sustainability are inseparable.”

Swart began his healthcare career in 2007 as a PRN pharmacy technician. Over the next 19 years, his work grew to include purchasing, supply chain, process improvement, finance, and executive leadership. He previously served as Vice President of Operations and Finance for Saint Alphonsus in Eastern Oregon and Administrator of Saint Alphonsus Medical Center in Baker City, Oregon.

During his time in Oregon, Swart helped expand access to care through provider recruitment, development of rehabilitation and cardiology services, and partnerships with local organizations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and general management and an MBA from Northwest Nazarene University.

The path to Wyoming started with a career opportunity and a little encouragement from a friend. “A friend in Pinedale has been trying to get me to look at roles in Wyoming, which brought me to Aspen,” said Swart.

For Swart, healthcare is a core pillar of a healthy community. He sees Aspen’s specialty hospital and medical clinic as an opportunity to think creatively about how services are delivered and how to meet the needs of the community.

“Throughout my career, I have worked to translate broader health-system strategies into practical solutions that reflect the realities of rural communities,” said Swart.

Getting to know the community is an important part of how Swart approaches leadership. “I value the relationships, creativity, and local knowledge that make rural healthcare distinctive, and I believe leadership in these settings requires visibility, accountability, and a willingness to understand the community personally,” he said.

Outside of work, Swart and his wife, Anna, a speech-language pathologist, are parents to daughter Gwen, 10, and son Beau, 8. The Swarts look forward to getting to know the Rock Springs community and exploring the outdoor and recreational opportunities the area has to offer.
